I wrote this piece for FashionUnited this week. Writing it reminded me of a time long ago when my fellow graduates were discussing the possibility of finding work in NYC and I shrunk back horrified at the prospect. And yet here I am, many years later, in NYC and loving it. The city, that is. Regarding the industry, I still find myself shrinking back. For me it’s best viewed from a distance.
Don’t be fooled by the slightly tongue-in-cheek tone. There ain’t nobody joking round here. No lily-livered, jelly-kneed,chicken-hearted, yellow-bellies need apply.

The sculpture is “Looking up” by Tom Friedman which is currently on display on NYC’s Park Avenue.
